Truck Not Syncing — Troubleshooting

If a truck isn't pulling location or telematics data into Datatruck, the issue is almost always one of two things: a VIN mismatch or an integration setup error.

Check 1 — VIN Numbers Must Match Exactly

The VIN number entered in Datatruck must be identical to the VIN on your ELD or telematics provider's portal. Even a single character difference will prevent the truck from syncing.

  1. Go to Fleet Management > Trucks and open the truck in question
  2. Check the VIN in the truck's profile
  3. Log in to your ELD/telematics provider's portal and check the VIN for the same truck
  4. Correct any mismatch in either system so both VINs match exactly
  5. Save and Sync Trucks again.

Check 2 — Confirm the Integration Is Set Up Correctly

  1. Go to Settings > Integrations > ELD (or Telematics, depending on your provider)
  2. Confirm the correct provider is selected and connected
  3. Verify the API key or token entered matches what was generated in your provider's portal
  4. For providers like Samsara, confirm the API token has the correct READ permissions enabled — missing scopes are a common cause of sync failures
  5. Confirm the integration shows as Connected and reflects the correct number of trucks

If the Truck Still Isn't Syncing

  • Confirm the truck is actively reporting data on the provider's own portal — if it's not visible there, Datatruck won't receive it either
  • Re-enter the API key if the integration was recently reset or regenerated
