Less than truckload (LTL) freight refers to the transportation of products or goods that do not require a full truckload. These smaller freight loads are often combined, resulting in multiple separate shipments transported in one truck. We also call them partial loads. In Datatruck, you can include loads in “Booked” status as part of LTL loads.
Below are the steps to enable the LTL Workflow and add LTL loads.
Step 1: Enable LTL Workflow Visibility
Before you can add LTL loads, make sure the LTL Workflow Visibility option is turned on in your account settings.
-
Go to Settings.
-
Navigate to Default Configurations > Load Management.
-
Turn on LTL Workflow Visibility and click Save.
Step 2: Create Partial Loads in Load Management
-
Create loads that will be done partially using manual entry, TruckGPT, or TruckGPT Premium.
-
Select LTL from the upper tab to mark these loads as partial.
Step 3: Use the Trip Planner
-
Click on Trip Planner in the upper-right corner.
-
Create a unique trip number and save it.

Step 4: Add Booked or Assigned Loads
Within the Trip Planner:
-
Select Add Booked Loads or Add Trips to add your partial loads to the trip.

Step 5: Assign a Driver
Assign the driver who will handle the trip.
Step 6: Use the Autosort Function
-
The Auto-sort function arranges all stops in the correct sequence automatically.
-
After sorting, click Recalculate so that the miles and RPM (Rate Per Mile) are updated.
By following these steps, you can effectively enable and manage LTL loads in Datatruck, ensuring smooth handling of partial shipments in one trip.
